Annapurna over Manaslu
Manaslu trekking Nepal is
increasingly becoming the star trek of Nepal, owing to the over populated and
much commercialized Annapurna circuit. For a long time Annapurna has been the
star of the show but now its fame seems to be getting to it. You can find tea
shops at every few kilometers selling candies and drinks along the way. Regular
road development works also seem to take away the original track space, little
by little.
If you do not mind the loads of
visitors visiting Annapuirna, you will enjoy the trekking equally, however for
anyone who is search of natural wilderness and true experiences of village
life, untouched by the outer world, the Manaslu trekking Nepal route is the new
leader.
Even though the Manaslu trekking
route has been opened for trekkers since 1991, however Annapurna’s overwhelming
popularity has overshadowed this beautiful and tranquilizing natural beauty.
Manaslu receives about only 1/30 of the visitors visiting Annapurna annually.
What You Need To Know
How Long It Takes
Normally it takes about two weeks
to hike the Manaslu Circuit, which circles around the Manaslu Mountain, the
eighth highest peak on the globe. At a height of 26,759 ft, the Manaslu circuit
trekking, starts from the Budhi Gandaki River, from where you will be required
to climb against its current. The path leads further through glacier hanging
gorges, suspension bridges and fields filled with Barley.
Where It Leads To
The Manaslu trek follows the
ancient route from where, yaks carrying bags of salt have travelled from Tibet
for almost thousands years. As you climb on higher and pass the last signs of
population before reaching the Himalaya wall, the Tibetan territory starts which
begins to get evident by the architecture as well. The further you ascend on
the trail, the more monasteries, chortens and Maani walls begin to appear.
At this point, the Manaslu trekking
Nepal route enters the Ghorka lands, where you will again see huts of herder’s
folded in the melting meadows. You can also witness about a dozen of other
peaks soaring higher than 21,000 feet. From this point, the path will further
ascend to the Larkya La pass. The Manaslu trek will take you to the highest
trek point at 17,175 feet.
Trekking Season
The season for Manaslu trekking
Nepal starts from March to May and then from September to November. The other
months are either very cold, or are under the severe monsoon pressure which
literally drowns the valley. The peak time when you will see other trekkers
treading through these paths is in October, as at any other time, there are
high chances that you will not see many trekkers or find company.
Special Permits
It would be dishonest here to
mention another reason that prevents Manaslu from turning into Annapurna.
Manaslu and Annapurna are managed by the NTNC (National Trust for Nature
Conservation) and it considers Manaslu to be a restricted area and so
additional permits and company of a registered guide is compulsory to trek this
route. This does make the trek a little more costly, however is well worth the additional
fee, besides offering raw nature experience.
Trekking companies can secure
permits for you if you like and if you are travelling alone they can also find
you a partner, as trekking alone in Manaslu is illegal. There should be at
least two trekkers willing to walk the Manaslu trekking Nepal path for a permit
to be granted. This extra permit cost about $23 only, but is worth the
experience you will have on this trek route.
You can take along a Manaslu
trekking map along however since having a guide is compulsory on this trail,
tere are very little chances of deviating from the path.
