Explore the Ravishing Darjeeling Trekking Routes

Darjeeling, when generally discussed is referred to the Darjeeling town which is small town, densely populated. However that is not all that Darjeeling has to offer. The total area of Darjeeling district is spread over about 3,000 sq km, offering some of the most exhilarating and ravishing Darjeeling trekking routes.

Darjeeling is one place where you can witness four of the five largest mountains on the globe. These mountains include the beautiful Mount Everest, the Kanchenjunga, Makalu and of course Lhotse. Not only does Darjeeling trek routes offer the beautiful stretched view of the highest mountains, but also offer an array of intense forests and lush meadows.

For those of you who wish to check out the ferns, oak, magnolia and chestnut forests or the abu8ndant rhododendrons, orchids and other varieties of flowers, visiting Darjeeling tour is the best you can get. The place is also rich in wildlife and offers a chance to view 200 different species of birds and some rare small high altitude animals.

Some of my favorite Places to visit in Darjeeling include

Singalila and Sandakphu

Being the most popular trek route in Darjeeling, Sandakphu is Singalila range’s summit offering glorious views of mountains and valleys. At a height of 11,929 ft, Sandakphu cannot in any way be considered a difficult trek, as any one physically fit and used to regular trekking, can enjoyably trek the route in about 5 days. Besides sightseeing of the best flora and fauna in the area, trekkers also face the snow covered peaks of Mt Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu and several others.

Phalut Trek

This Darjeeling trekking route is about 21 km away from Sandakphu and you have the option of either trekking from Sandakphu to the trek starting point, or travel via jeep. Being on the same altitude as Sandakphu, this trek too offers vast flower beds of chestnuts, magnolias and rhododendrons. The duration of completing this trek is 6 days.

Village Tour

The virgin villages situated in the Kalimpong area offer an excellent chance to indulge in the prevalent Nepalese tradition, culture and lifestyle. You can experience firsthand village life and enjoy an overnight stay to dig in deeper into the local customs and food and enjoy rthe nature and forest walks.

Sikkim (Goechala & Dzongri)

This Darjeeling trek route in the area of Sikkim allows breathtaking mountain views of over 20,000 ft high peaks, as it borders with Bhutan on one side and Nepal on the other. With a wide variety of orchids and rhododendrons, this route offers several beautiful natural views on the way. The longer version of the tour is a 11 day trek, however the trek can be altered according to your timings and can be made short.

Darjeeling Day Trips

It is understandable that not everyone has the liberty or the time to trek on routes that require several days to complete. However if you wish to enjoy the Himalayan mountain trails on a limited time and budget, opting for the day treks is for you. Two famous day treks where you will be required to leave in the morning and return back before dark is the Tiger Hill Summit and the Route from Tonglu to Manebhanjan through Tumling.

Kurseong Area

This area offers several Darjeeling trekking rails of different difficulties and trekking experiences. You can view lush plantations, tea gardens, medicinal plants and several species of beautiful birds on the way.

The Best Time for a Darjeeling Trip

The two best times for Darjeeling trekking is between April and May, in the spring season closing to summer. The weather is beautiful and the temperature is also very comfortable. The second season is between October to November. The second season although is commonly dry with excellent visibility all the way through, however comparatively colder to the first season. Temperatures can drop to 1°C.
